Kansas Governor Signs Bill Allowing Permit-And-Training-Free Concealed Carry

Governor Sam Brownback of Kansas signed a bill that allows citizens to carry concealed weapons with no permits and no training needed.
The new law, which kicks in July 1, makes Kansas the sixth state to allow “constitutional carry.” It will allow Kansans 21 and older to carry concealed firearms regardless of whether they have obtained a permit.
Training still will be required for anyone who wants to carry a concealed gun in the 36 states that accept Kansas permits.
Brownback touted the importance of training, explaining that his youngest son took a hunter safety course this past week…
Asked why he did not think training should be required if it is valuable, Brownback said carrying a gun is a constitutional right.
“We’re saying that if you want to do that in this state, then you don’t have to get the permission slip from the government,” Brownback said. “It is a constitutional right, and we’re removing a barrier to that right.”

More predictions of bloodshed, Like we haven’t heard that for 25 years while the crime rates drop. The reality is that people who legally carry concealed are about 6x less likely to commit murder than the general population. Utah with it’s permitless concealed carry has a homicide rate of 1 murder per 63,829 citizens. New Jersey with some of the strictest gun laws in America and virtually non existent concealed carry has 1 murder per 24,930 citizens. or roughly 2.5x greater. Someone will die because of this law, Likely it will be a criminal intent on harming an armed citizen.

I live in a State that has pretty much NO gun regulations. Surprise surprise, our gun deaths are twice the national average and our everyday, run-of-the-mill gun violence is rampant. Looks like we have some competition now! You go, Kansas!

Twice the national average? Kansas had 112 murders in 2014, or 1 murder per 26,000 citizens, the US rate is 1 murder per 22,000 citizens.

There’s nothing in the Constitution that says the right is absolute. Nor is there anything that says licensure can’t be a requirement for exercising it. One does not have an absolute right to free speech — speech is limited in all sorts of ways: on television, on radios, and even in open spaces. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever — except for the gun-fellating hysteria of Reich-wingers and Ammosexuals — that guns can’t be limited in the same way. None. But we’ll have it your way. Have as many guns as you like. There’s nothing in the Constitution — not one fucking word — about ammunition.

As I read it, It was clear you have no idea that 2/3 of all U.S. homicides are caused by the 31% of U.S. Households owning guns. That’s down from the 1970’s 50% gun owner homes.

Red Eye you realize the highest guns per capitia states have up to double USA’s 12/100,000 average gun deaths per capitia e.g. Alaska’s 21 gun deaths per 100,000, Montana, Wyoming, etc right?
Vs the ‘well regulated’ North East Mass & NY 5.5/100,000 because more guns = more gun deaths

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. So, while I can’t categorically say it was false, I would say that the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of … let’s say “inaccuracy.”

Meanwhile in Kansas, two schools will be closing early this year due to lack of funding, the expected budget shortfall of an estimated $600 million due July 1. Teachers are fleeing their field within the state in record numbers and young adults are a demographic the state has not seen growth in for two decades. This is nothing other than a cheap stunt to distract and appease his base god and guns voter.

You and most folks won’t have any idea, but gun permits are a completely separate issue in point of fact. If he signed a bill to repair the roads, you goofballs would call that a “distraction” too. Look at the polar opposite: Connecticut’s governor criminalized gun possession (even for permit holders) and they are 50th for economic growth in the entire NATION. That’s 50th. As in FIFTIETH. As in there are 50 states and Connecticut reformed their gun laws and they are _still_ dead LAST for economic growth. This whole “distraction” theory goes two ways.

I’m pretty sure if Brownback signed a bill to repair the roads, the citizens of Kansas would be ecstatic. An actual bill to create job would be exciting, a workable idea to meet the budget that didn’t starve the elderly, poor and disabled would be great. If he stopped bashing teachers, that would thrilling and costs the state nothing. Maybe if he stopped trying to insert his religion into the state government, illegally and then spending tax dollars to defend it that would also be great. The signing of this bill was nothing short of pandering to a knee-jerk segment of his base. It cost nothing and it provided a photo-op. It means nothing and gave the state nothing of substance but a potential problem.

Vermont’s been Constitutional Carry since the 80’s… and we’ve all seen how that’s turned out. Highest murder rate since… LOL I hope you liberals aren’t still reading. It’s NEVER been a problem in VT.
