Special accommodations must be made because he is a sheriff. Yep, his fellow officers must meet with him so that they all can get their stories straight. It seems to me that anyone who shoots someone, no matter what the circumstances has some explaining to do and shouldn’t be allowed to just leave without doing so….especially a police officer.

I would tend to believe that the bar for an “accidental” shooting by any trained police officer, sheriff’s deputy, or sheriff would be much higher than for an ordinary civilians, since it is one of the tools of their trade which, theoretically, they have a better mastery of than civilians.
As for releasing the sheriff because he refused to speak, right now he should be observing the good cop/bad cop interrogation procedure from an entirely new perspective.
