Good point. I see the same irony here from people who respond to hatred with more hatred. They would object to themselves were the targets to change.
The icing on the cake is when they call for consistency from the other side.
To be more specific, here the crowd rightly objects to hatred directed at Muslims but the crowd endorses the same hatred when directed at Christians and seems eager to target the Jews with the same hate, but is held back because hating Jews raises eyebrows in a way that hating Christians does not.
Eventually this will change and the crowd will find another group it considers appropriate to hate…..

I would urge every American of the Muslim faith to avail themselves of their 2nd Amendment rights. I’d be willing to bet good money that there are far more “Christians” in the US with a deep desire to eliminate Islam than the other way around. Further proof that right-wing nutjobs only support the Constitution when it serves their self-interests.

A while back when changes were being made here, one of my suggestions was to ban pictures because many of them are just distractions or come from weak-thinking people who can’t, or won’t take the time to put their thoughts in words. If this were to be the policy here, I would argue for William to be exempted because of terrific posts like this one.

There seems to be this notion that the way to respond to hatred is with more hatred.
The logic in play is we need more of the thing we don’t want.
These people would bail water into a sinking boat.
When fire is the problem the solution is not more fire. Fight fire with water.
Back in the 60s the hippies had it right.
There is a better way and that way is the one of peace and love.
We don’t need more hatred, we have too much of that already.

I do not hate muslims. I just wish they were able to get the TRUE message of Islam out there instead of the hate-filled screeds that come from psychos like ISIS.
I am not a muslim. But why must I be forced to obey Islam’s demands as if I were one? What if a few years from now, muslims say they are offended that Americans are eating bacon? Will I be forced to stop eating bacon in the name of diversity too? If you submit to a religion’s demands, then you have been forced to convert against your will.
Why must the mere act of drawing a cartoon be grounds for death? If we condemn the WBC for their “God Hates Fags” bile, shouldn’t we also condemn those who call for the death of people who draw a cartoon?
Muslims have every right to live their own lives, but they have no right to impose their religion onto me.

I’ll repeat for you the invitation I have extended to others here.
Come to Fredericksburg, Virginia and I will show you what Christians are doing where I live. They are running 78% of the food pantries.
We’ll get a current food plan and I’ll take you to where the soup kitchens feed the hungry daily and give them food and other needed items to take with them when they leave.
After supper, at each place a bus takes people to the homeless shelter, run by people who you can hate from a distance, but let’s see how you handle them up close, face to face when they give you the opportunity to pitch in and help out.
If you can’t make it here, just let me know the area where you reside and I’ll gladly help you find out what is going on around you that escapes your notice.
I am sure that, like me, once you get involved you’ll find you are surrounded by angels and the more you associate with those doing so much to help those in need, you will find your outlook on other people and life in general taking a dramatic change for the better.

I’ll once again extend my invitation to you to come see what Christians are doing where I live.
Rather than comport to your hateful, shallow, inaccurate stereotype, I’ll introduce you to some of those who are running food pantries. 78% of them are run by Christians in the Fredericksburg, Virginia region.
For fun, I’ll take you around to ballparks where they run many sports leagues for kids and adults, for example.
Rather than killing doctors, they are pitching in to provide health care for those who can’t afford it, rather than bombing clinics they are building them.
I’ll introduce you to the gay man who often sat behind me in church.
Thousands of them terrorize no one here.
Are they killing doctors, bombing clinics and the rest in the place you live in?

A link would help because I’m sure a lot of the things I see here are taking place where you live and you don’t even realize it. This is a shame, because when one gets directly involved, one finds a whole new world of thousands of amazing people. Being around these kind of people is refreshing and makes life much more enjoyable. Instead of all the misery you see around you, you’ll begin to see a great deal of love in action, inspired in selfless people by their faith.

I know many Christians do fine things every day. It’s very admirable, but I think I’d respect them if their generosity was more because it’s the right thing to do and less for recognition. You may find this hard to believe, but there are many Atheists, Jews, Muslims, etc., performing good things. You just don’t see it because they’re not out announcing their good work. They’re not interested in your approval. And you’ll never see a Muslim homeless shelter because it’s considered haram (a sin) to garner praise or honor from mortal men. It is only important that Allah recognizes good works.
I often find that those who accuse others of being hate filled, usually are projecting their own hate filled tendencies onto others.
But don’t worry. I’m hoping that, soon enough you may find love replacing the hate that gushes from you currently. I know it’s a difficult transition for someone like you who’s harbored hatred in his heart for so long, to overcome it as many like you find their hate just too comfortable to part with. Here’s hoping that sooner, rather than later, you will rid yourself of the poison that darkens your heart and learn how to love, rather than judge.

In a light-hearted sense, it would be hilarious. In a serious sense, it would be as awful as this.
I liked this part:

This is how to meet this kind of hatred. I also like my idea of how to deal with Klan marches. That is to refuse to give them the vitriol they hope to inspire, which ends up making the good guys look almost as bad as the bad guys. People like that feed off that sort of anger.
In my opinion, the better way to go is with ridicule and waves of laughter.
What I’d like to see is a crowd turn up and everyone has a boom box. Over the boom box they all blast the same 60s-era laugh track from “I Love Lucy”. Everyone declines gambits intended to cause anger or vitriol and instead keeps smiling, laughing and pointing at the buffoons.
After this took place a few times it would be more difficult to get racists or Muslim-haters or other such cretins to turn out when they know they will be greeted thusly for as long as they are there.

Hilarious? Can you imagine what would happen if Muslims were to protest outside a Christian church in this country? It wouldn’t be hilarious. It would be disastrous – for the Muslims. It would be the crusades all over again. In case you haven’t noticed, Muslims aren’t very well liked in this country, and I doubt they’d be stupid enough to do something like that – much like Christians wouldn’t be stupid enough to demonstrate their aggressive behavior in Syria or Iran.

I gave two answers, one flippant and one serious.
Though I labeled them clearly, somehow you got the impression that the flippant answer was the serious one.
Posts such as this have caused me to retire, at least for a while, Burqa’s First Law of Politics which is about how slow conservatives tend to be when it comes to learning even simple things, and how they need much more repetition, sometimes for decades, to learn what the rest of us pick up quickly (tax increases signed by Reagan would be an example).
That’s ok, I am known to be patient and will continue to be so until more here learn that it is illogical to argue from the particular to the general. In this case, the notion that a couple hundred people who don’t like Muslims reflecting the feelings of the country as a whole.
I do not think these armed nitwits are representative of America. On this point we’ll have to agree to disagree.
I live in a fairly conservative area and there are a number of Muslims living here.
One family who ran a grocery store downtown was widely admired for the way they did business in the community, especially the way they dealt with low income citizens who live in a housing project nearby.
Sure, there are some numbskulls around here who do not like Muslims, but they let them alone. I can’t recall any example of protests or violence directed at Muslims in this area, where about 250,000 Americans live within about a 15 or 20 mile radius of where I am.
From what I can see, when we look at the whole picture across our country, the prevailing opinion toward Muslims seems to me to be more of a live-and-let-live approach.
There once was a time when it seemed that a higher percentage of the people understood the fallacy of arguing from the particular to the general, but this may be a case of faulty memory. It could also be a case of a small number of people who have never learned to think logically who post on the internet making it appear a far greater percentage of Americans suffer from this flaw in thinking. This seems to be a common characteristic of the internet. People see the actions of a few kooks and get the impression they represent a far greater percentage than they actually do. Since we find quite a few people expressing arguments that employ this logical fallacy in forums like this, it makes it appear a large percentage of Americans think that way when really they don’t.
