The New York Daily News reports that Donald Trump repeatedly ignored summonses to appear for jury duty.

[He] ignored five jury summonses in the past nine years from the Manhattan County Clerk, the Daily News has learned.

Trump’s delinquencies became so persistent that the court system finally caught up with him three months ago.

The billionaire businessman was ordered to appear at a March 6 hearing for “failure to respond to summons for petit jury service” twice in 2006 — and then again in 2008, 2013 and on Feb. 9, 2015.

Supreme Court Justice Tanya Kennedy imposed a $250 fine after seeing neither hide nor combed-over hair of Trump in the courthouse…

Michael Cohen, special counsel to Trump, said the Republican hopeful never received the notifications.

“Any assertion that Mr. Trump doesn’t take his civic responsibilities seriously is absolutely false and only being used as an attempt to discredit his stellar reputation,” Cohen said. “Mr. Trump has not received any of the notices. Had he, he would have complied.”

Everyone knows that jury duty doesn’t apply to rich people. Especially REALLY rich people.

Is Michael Cohen the same special counsel who sent Trump’s birth certificate to Bill Maher to prove his father wasn’t an orangutan?

You could package manure, snail-mail it with “Donald Trump” and nothing else, and it would get to one of his people. He almost certainly has someone who puts such trivial things as civic duty into the circular file.

Makes sense to me. It was less expensive for him to pay the fines than it was for him to go to jury duty. Not saying that Trump was right to do it, but if I was super-rich, I would pay a measly 250 bucks to skip the hassle of jury duty.

If you want to make him rethink his decision, have the judge hold him in contempt, or increase the fine.

      Mandatory Prison time.

      • TuMadre, Ph.D June 22nd, 2015 at 7:16 pm

That’s fine, so long as you support the same punishment for anyone who skips jury duty. You can’t go around picking and choosing punishments for people just because of their financial status; that would be discrimination.

So long as the penalty is the same for everybody, then you would get no argument from me about Mandatory Prison.

Agreed, the problem in the U.S. today is too many people leaving the responsibility of citizenship up to the other guy. It is our government just the same as the lawn is our responsibility to mow. IF you have a legitimate reason not to serve at the appointed time, then just contact the jury office and you can get excused for a good reason. See we do agree. Time for a cold one together.

Despite being libertarian, you might be surprised on how many issues I agree with liberals with (I am ALL for the concept of personal freedom and personal responsibility in almost all fields; Democrats like the idea of personal freedom, which Republicans hate, and Republicans like the idea of personal responsibility, which more than a couple Democrats dislike, to say the least).

I’ll think of you when I pour myself a Guinness later. Cheers, bud.

And I will hoist my nightly Scotch Rocks to you my Good man. But do keep in mind that I am actually Fiercely Independent. I have to be because no one wants me telling them what to do.

The five dollars a day Jury Pay would have put him in too high of a tax bracket.

On the other hand perhaps it’s a blessing.
Based upon his business expertise he would have likely bankrupt the court.
