‘I Like Jews As Much As Hitler’ Tweeter Rehired By NYFD

The son of a former New York City Fire Department commissioner who was fired for bigoted tweets has been rehired.
Joseph Cassano, 26, confirmed Thursday that he’s set to rejoin the department with the next Emergency Medical Services Academy class beginning July 13. He insisted he’s seen the error of his “very ignorant and very immature” ways.
“I am very grateful to get an opportunity like this,” Cassano said in an exclusive interview with the Daily News. “I’ve apologized for those comments and I am still apologizing for them today.”
…Cassano quit in March 2013 after posting a string of hateful comments on his personal Twitter account, @jcassano15. In one, he wrote, “I like Jews about as much as hitler #toofar? NOPE.”
On Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday holiday in 2013, he tweeted, “MLK could go kick rocks for all I care, but thanks for the time and a half today.” Another post read, “Getting sick of picking up all these Obama lovers and taking them to the hospital because their Medicare pays for an ambulance and not a cab.”…
“I really believe I am in a great place today and will be an asset to the Fire Department,” Joseph Cassano told The News.
Since his resignation, Cassano has sought counseling from Rabbi Steven Burg, then a director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, toured the Museum of Tolerance and attended several events there. He’s also done some community service, he said.
