Jeb Bush first acted angry and then weaselly when asked whether he regrets having used the term “anchor babies”.

Pro-reform Jeb Bush has also referred to the American children of illegal immigrants with that term in the past, and in a recent interview, he got defensive about doing so.

While speaking in New Hampshire about how Trump’s immigration comments harm Latino inclusion among the GOP, Bush was asked whether he regretted using the term “anchor babies” during a recent radio interview. “I don’t, I don’t regret it,” Bush snapped back. “You give me a better term and I’ll use it, I’m serious.”

Bush walked things back a bit a few moments later, saying that his use of the term was simply to make a point about what it refers to. “What I said was it’s commonly referred to that, that’s what I said,” Bush said. “I didn’t use it as my own language.”
