Police: MA Cop Who Said Cruiser Was Shot At Made It Up

It was fabricated, say the police.
This lie caused authorities to sweep the area and schools were closed down. A manhunt was underway.
“My cruiser’s been shot at. I’m at Forest Road. It’s going to be a dark maroon pickup traveling in the opposite direction,” the officer radioed to dispatch at 2:17 p.m.
Sounds scary.
The officer, 24, said he spun around, and in an attempt to avoid gunfire from a red maroon truck and seek shelter, he slammed into a tree and the cruiser burst into flames, according to WCVB.
“We have determined that the officer’s story was fabricated. Specifically, that he fired shots at his own cruiser as a plan to concoct a story that he was fired upon,” Millis Police Sgt. William Dwyer said. “The evidence indicates the shots were not fired by a suspect, and there is no gunman at large in or around the town.”
