At Stone Mountain Park in Georgia, which is the home of a giant carving of three so-called “heroes” of the Old South–Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson–there will soon be a memorial to a true hero of the South, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But from the furious reaction of some die-hard haters, you’d think someone had proposed scraping the mural off the side of Stone Mountain.

The planned memorial will feature a replica of the Liberty Bell, complete with the inscription  “Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia,”–which is a line from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. There will also be a memorial to black Confederate soldiers. All of which sounds like an idea that is long overdue….READ MORE at LiberalAmerica
