Alumni, staff, and students at Talladega College are not happy that the college’s marching band has been announced as one of the performing acts at the inauguration of real estate mogul Donald Trump:

[T]he outrage might have been premature, as the president of the Yellowhammer State’s oldest historically black college on Tuesday clarified that he has yet to make a decision on the matter.

“The decision to march or not to march has not been made by the president,” a spokesperson for the nearly 150-year-old college told local TV station WIAT in a phone call.

Several critical petitions were launched after Trump’s inauguration team on Friday announced that the college’s nationally acclaimed marching band, the Talladega Marching Tornadoes, would play at the President-elect’s inauguration ceremony on Jan. 20.

“As an alumnus I respectfully request that Talladega College Band withdraw from any inaugural events for Donald Trump,” Shirley Ferrill wrote in a petition that had received nearly 1,000 signatures as of Tuesday evening. “In view of his behavior and comments I strongly do not want Talladega College to give the appearance of supporting him.”
