UPDATE,   6pmEDT: Buh-bye!

Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) will resign later this month following a report this week suggesting that he urged a woman with whom he was having an affair to have an abortion.

Murphy had originally announced Wednesday night that he would not seek reelection and serve out the rest of his term through 2018.

But he will now resign from the House effective Oct. 21, rather than linger for more than a year following the scandal.

On Tuesday, a “pro-life” congressman was exposed as a hypocrite:

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday afternoon that Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA18), a darling of the anti-choice movement, had pressured a woman with whom he was having an affair to get an abortion. Hours later, Murphy was one of 237 House representatives who voted in favor of extreme anti-abortion legislation.

To absolutely nobody’s surprise, good ol’ Murph has opted for early retirement.

Representative Tim Murphy, Republican of Pennsylvania, announced Wednesday night that he would not seek re-election in 2018 after a backlash over reports that he had suggested to his lover to consider having an abortion.

In a statement, Mr. Murphy, 65, an outspoken opponent of abortion who has served in the House since 2003, said his decision to retire came after discussions with his family and staff. Mr. Murphy was uncontested in his 2016 campaign for the heavily Republican district in western Pennsylvania that includes parts of Pittsburgh.

“In the coming weeks I will take personal time to seek help as my family and I continue to work through our personal difficulties and seek healing,” Mr. Murphy said in the statement. “I ask you to respect our privacy during this time.”

What a surprise – Murphy fell back on that that familiar “seek healing with the family” trope! The very Bible-thumping rubes the GOP has been manipulating for years can now rest assured that you’re guaranteed a forgiven-by-Republican-Jesus “Get out of Hell” card from the big guy upstairs.

They’ll never catch on to the fact that “pro-life” means two things: “anti-choice,” and “options for me but not for thee.”

‘Nuff said!
