Pro-life activist Marybeth Glenn is voting for Democrats. She explains why in this brilliant Twitter thread. Take a few mental notes — and explain this brilliant justification to your pro-life friends and relatives.

I get asked a lot how someone who claims to be pro-life can justify supporting/voting for Democrats/Independents (because that’s what I plan to do in November). So a short thread on that: 1/

First, my position: I’m pro-life, but I support helping women, not legislation. I was a part of the pro-life movement, was even on the BoD for a PCC, & that time on the “front lines” taught me that legislation isn’t the answer, & that the movement hasn’t earned their label. 2/

I know from my time in the movement that people are manipulated into thinking that if they put a bumper sticker on their car and vote Republican their pro-life credentials are good enough. It’s such a foolish argument, and I’m ashamed that I once fell for it. 3/

Now on to the actual debate: Can a pro-life person support a Democrat/vote against current GOPers? Absolutely. Actually, in this election I think that’s the most pro-life choice a person can make, let me explain… 4/

First the most obvious point: When a pro-choice politician gets into office, pregnant women who intend to keep their baby don’t suddenly decide to have an abortion. That’s not how it works. And it also doesn’t mean you don’t care about the unborn. 5/

Side note: You can help the unborn by buying diapers, giving that old crib away, stocking food pantries, or just being there for young moms who are scared. All of that will do more to help the unborn and their moms than you’ve ever done by voting for a certain politician. 6/

Many leaders in the movement act like you’re signing the death certificates of the unborn by simply voting for someone who is pro-choice. That’s just manipulation. Don’t fall for it. It’s how they get a lot of their votes, and it’s how they get a lot of their money. 7/

Abortions have been steadily declining, regardless of which party is in control. Much of that has to do w/increased sex education/help for mothers. Again, you save babies by helping moms, not writing angry articles & snarky tweets to pro-choicers or putting GOPers in office. 8/

But now for the part that really needs to be read and understood: Republicans have been in control, and we’ve seen immigrant families torn apart and refugees abandoned. Putting them in office has done that. That’s antithetical to anything that can be considered “pro-life.” 9/

So in short, your pro-life ideals and credentials are more in jeopardy in the hands of Republicans, and I consider it my duty as a pro-life individual to help get them out of office in November. 10/x
